Plumbing leak and pipe repair cost

Leaks, pipe supports, pipe insulation, water pressure, shutoff valves and sump pumps.

Small pipe problems are some of the most worthwhile plumbing fixes, because they head off water damage. Common ones are pipes without proper supports, uninsulated pipes in a crawl space, small leaks, and water pressure that's too high.

High water pressure came up in 18% of the homes HomeCloud evaluated. It can make faucets, toilets, valves and water heaters fail early, and a pressure regulator brings it down.

What affects the price

Getting to the pipe
A pipe in an open crawl space or basement is quicker to reach than one behind a finished wall or ceiling.
Water damage around it
A leak that has gone on for a while may have damaged drywall, flooring or framing that also needs repair.
Pipe material
Repairs to older materials, like galvanized steel or polybutylene, can turn up more problems. When the whole system is a problem material, see repiping a house.
How many fixes at once
Several small fixes done in one visit cost less than separate trips.

Common questions

What water pressure is too high?

HomeCloud reports flag pressure over 80 PSI (pounds per square inch) as too high and under 40 PSI as too low.

Where is my main water shutoff?

It's often where the main water line comes into the house, such as in a crawl space, basement or utility closet. Some homes have it outside near a hose faucet, and there may be a valve in the water meter box near the street. See how to find and use your water shutoff.
