- How many cracks or joints
- A few cracks or a small section of mortar is a short job. Long runs take longer.
- Inside or outside
- Cracks can be sealed from inside, outside or both. Digging to reach the outside of a wall adds cost.
- Water
- Cracks that leak may need a sealant that blocks water, and the drainage outside fixed.
- Matching
- Matching the color of old mortar takes more care on a visible wall.

Should I worry about a crack in my foundation?
Most thin cracks aren't a structural problem. Mark the ends with a pencil and the date, and check them now and then. If a crack grows, widens, lets water in or comes with sloping floors, have it looked at.
