Exterior trim, soffit and caulking repair cost
Sealing gaps, replacing old caulk, and repairing trim, soffits, fascia and eaves.
Caulking is the most common exterior fix in HomeCloud evaluations. Old caulk dries out and cracks around windows, doors, trim and siding joints, and water gets in behind it. Replacing it is one of the least expensive ways to protect the outside of a home.
Trim, soffits (the underside of the roof overhang) and fascia (the board along the roof edge, behind the gutter) take a lot of weather. Damaged or unpainted pieces are repaired or replaced and painted before rot spreads.

What affects the price
- How many areas
- Caulking and small trim repairs are usually priced by the job. Several areas done in one visit cost less than separate trips.
- Rot behind the paint
- Trim that looks peeling can be soft underneath. Rotted wood is cut out and replaced, which costs more than paint.
- Height
- Fascia, soffits and second-story trim take ladders or lifts and more time.
- Painting to match
- New trim and patched areas are primed and painted. Matching an older paint color can mean painting a whole board or side.
Common questions
Why does caulking matter so much?
Caulk seals the joints where water would otherwise get behind siding and trim. When it cracks or pulls away, rain gets in, and that's how a lot of trim and siding rot starts.
What's the difference between soffit and fascia?
The fascia is the board along the edge of the roof, usually behind the gutter. The soffit is the underside of the roof overhang, between the fascia and the wall. Water stains on either often point to a gutter or roof edge problem. See roof guides.
